How water damages photos

Floods, leaks and damp storage leave stains and tide marks, lift the image off the paper, and stick photos to each other or to frame glass. Humidity causes mould spots.

What we do

On a digital copy, we remove stains, tide marks and mould spots, and rebuild missing areas from the detail around them.

If a large part of a face is gone, your quote will say what’s possible. Another photo of the same person helps.

If your photos are wet or stuck

Air-dry wet photos face up on a towel, out of the sun. No heat, no pressing. Don’t pull stuck photos apart; photograph them as they are, without glare.

Common questions

Can mould be removed?

Yes, from the restored copy. Keep the original dry and away from other photos.

My photo is stuck to the frame glass. What do I do?

Leave it. Photograph it through the glass, angled to avoid glare.

Can you rebuild missing parts?

Small areas, yes. For large areas, especially faces, your quote will say what’s possible.
